ALIPAC's Willy Gheen complaining to a WRAL news reporter how he should have been number one to speak, but for all the "ileegals" highjacking the hearing. In the end, the groundswell of support for the proposal, drowned out Willies pathetic whines.
ALIPAC’s William Gheen is in apparent seclusion tonight after his humiliation before the North Carolina Community College Board, which voted in September to allow undocumented immigrants to attend their 58 colleges.
In a packed hearing room of the State Archives building, supporters of this proposal outnumbered opponents 9 to 1. 51 of the 57 signed up to speak were in favor of the proposition.
Willy Gheen had spent the week sending out nonsensical press releases and hedging his bets by making outrageous assertions such as the following, which he continued to repeat today.
Friends of ALIPAC,
We have received fresh information that pro-illegal immigration groups have activated their national networks via e-mails and phone text alerts to rally the illegal alien supporters to attend tomorrow’s meeting in Raleigh.
We also believe chances are high that they will bus in Latino students to make emotional appeals during the public input period.
THE ILLEGAL ALIENS AND THEIR SUPPORTERS ARE TELLING THEIR PEOPLE TO ARRIVE AT 9am., however, the meeting does not start until 10am. THEY MAY INTEND TO TAKE ALL THE SEATS BY COMING EARLY.
We know that 80% of North Carolina citizens agree with us. We know that 99% of those of you receiving this e-mail agrees with us. Our years spent building up our e-mail contact list tells us we have the numbers to dwarf our opposition at this meeting and win this round.
Willy knew what time the meeting was to start so he began this release off with a lie. And the numbers he quotes; 80% of North Carolinians agree with him, seems preposterous also. It would appear from the turnout, that 92% support human and civil rights for undocumented immigrants, something Willy can’t get through his pig head.
Willy came out on his website and on local TV claiming the hearing was rigged in favor of supporters of the proposal, when in fact, they opened the doors early to let folks in out of the cold and begin to sign them up, and issue numbers for the order they would speak. Willy made a big deal out of it though. Any opportunity to blame an immigrant or a pro reformist, he won’t pass up.
Willy was # 35 to speak and it must of been difficult for him to sit there and listen to the 34 ahead of him. giving their support to a proposal that is the right thing to do.
In September, Willy was only able to muster 5 of his “30,000″ supporters to protest this proposal. This time, it appears that Willy was a committee of one.
This is the same issue that brought us Whining Willy back in 2005, as explained in this excerpt about Gheen
in April 2005 to form ALI-PAC in order to fight against the passage of House Bill 1138, which would have allowed certain non-citizens to qualify for in-state tuition rates at publicly funded North Carolina colleges and universities. Gheen disparagingly and falsely referred to the “Access to Higher Education and A Better Economic Future Act” as “in-state tuition for illegal aliens.”
The bill was only sought to grant in-state tuition to immigrants who had graduated from high school after attending four consecutive years of public school in North Carolina and who supplied a sworn affidavit showing they were in the country legally and had applied for citizenship. By the time Gheen and his misinformation machine were finished, however, many North Carolina lawmakers and journalists, let alone average residents, were convinced the proposed law would instantly offer in-state tuition to any Mexican who hopped the border.
As a result, daily newspapers and TV stations began asking misleading poll questions. CBS affiliate WRAL Channel 5 News queried people about “a bill that would give children of illegal immigrants in-state tuition.” The Wilmington Star asked readers, “Should children of illegal immigrants get in-state tuition rates at N.C. colleges?” without mentioning the necessary qualifications or that children born on U.S. soil are automatically citizens under the U.S. Constitution. The polls skewed heavily against the bill, and in the end it was soundly defeated.
That was his one success amongst a host of massive failures. The events of today in North Carolina show just how irrelevant and marginalized Willy Gheen has become, and is one of just many more in his future.
Here’s the news video of the event. Willy has about 15 seconds of face time.

In the end, the board agreed to put the policy into place at it’s next meeting in April 2010.
