You don’t need a hate barometer to understand that the anti-immigration movement is fraught with intolerance, hatred and in many cases racism. The anti-immigration activist puts themselves above all others in a sick narcissism veiled as patriotism. While patriotism can be a good thing it loses it’s flavor when the idea or thing becomes more important than the suffering and needs of others.

This morning I opened up my feed reader to get started back into the SanctuarySphere posts only to find that Robb Pearson, a former anti-migrant activist from New Jersey, conducted an interview, or confession, with 9500Liberty. I figured this deserves its own post and what better way to start the new year then to have a former anti-’illegal’ immigrant protester confess. The following comment from Robb is very telling of the mindset many possess in this movement.

When you get wrapped up in it [the anti-'illegal'-immigration movement] and you recognize that the statistics say that eighty percent of illegrant immigrant are from…are Latino or Hispanic what ends up happening, and it’s not always conscious – what ends up happening, in your head, illegal immigrant we don’t like them, most illegal immigrants are Hispanics, therefore we don’t like Hispanics.

While this example shows a person who goes from pushing the “rule of law” to being racist Robb also states in the interview that some start off racist. While I don’t believe all anti-migrant activists are necessarily racists I do believe their cause is a nasty brew of intolerance and hate.

In July 2007 Robb Pearson held an anti-immigrant rally titled and themed a Pro-America Rally. Today Robb is an activist for humanity after realizing that there is nothing inherently good within or about the anti-immigrant movement. Anti-BVBL has pointed us to two videos where Robb goes into why he became an anti-migrant activist, the mindset of the anti-migrant activist and why he decided to remove himself from that movement.

One interesting point Robb makes here is if anti-migrant activists are so into the ‘rule of law’ why aren’t they spending time going after real criminals such as those that abuse children. I believe that the anti-migrant movement is based on a hatred of the ‘other’ and becomes so engrossing through audience and angry fellowship that removing them becomes an all encompassing goal while other societal ills more in need of attention are given less importance.
