Hypocrisy at it’s finest – Gilchrist calls in the hated ACLU in his defense
As we posted yesterday, Jim Gilchrist, founder of the border vigilante group Minuteman Project, finds himself in the center of a firestorm of protests against his invitation to participate in a debate at University of Reno-Nevada.
And as he did against Kyle de Beausset, Harvard undergraduate and publisher of CITIZEN ORANGE, Gilchrist is on the attack against the students and faculty of UNR and ASUN, who oppose his appearance.
In a reply to the above referenced article, Gilchrist wrote:
Dear ASUN,
I am dismayed to see the extremist witch-hunting mentality that has overwhelmed some of your university’s faculty and students over the topic of illegal vs. legal immigration. The court of public opinion would appreciate any evidence you have proving the Minuteman Project is the purveyor of rabid hate speech.
The only hate speech I am aware of seems to be from a few of your delusional students who see a demon inside anyone with whom they disagree. Perhaps that vile personna is encouraged by equally delusional faculty members who encourage such stone-age behavior.
In keeping with my support of free speech, I think students should be allowed to bring signs opposing whatever it is that upsets them, as long as they do not block someone’s view.
Support the ACLU. It assures that every person’s civil rights are protected. Some day the ACLU may be doing the same for some of you as well.
Respectfully Yours,
Jim Gilchrist,
President, The Minuteman Project
Yes, it appears Gilly called in the ACLU, often reviled and referred to as a communist organization by the right wing extremists who only believe in freedom of speech as it concerns their efforts to spread their xenophobic hate and fear.
The next week leading up to the debate, promises to be interesting, to say the least.
