Word is coming in from around the nation about the turnout for ALIPAC’s Tea Baggers against Amnesty, and it appears that Willy Gheen will fall far short of his goal of 5000 participants.
Immigration Clearinghouse had a man on the street in Austin Texas to observe the Austin Tea Party Against Amnesty, held on Congress street by the capitol. Here is the report and photos he sent to us.
I was in downtown at 2pm, and I found a big group of about 300 people in front of the Congress, the people of the video… but that was for the health care reform, so I started walking around until I found them.. the ones of the photo, they were actually talking about measures against immigrants, and although their banners were hard to read I think they said something about that too. I count 7 heads… Hope that it helps
It helped a lot Fernando, as showing that Texans, have a mind of their own and know how to use it.
I find it rather interesting also, that in the video clip, 300 people are on the other side of the Capitol, demonstrating FOR Healthcare Reform.

And from the news reports from around the nation, we look at the turnout at other events.
From Yakima Washington, Minuteman child killer Shawna Forde’s sometime old stomping ground comes this report from the YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC:
About 65 people attended the event, dubbed “Tea Party Against Amnesty and Illegal Immigration,” at the Gardner Grange to hear a former U.S. Border Patrol agent speak and to write quick letters to government officials……
and after tea and cookies, “about 10 or so waved flags and protest signs on the corner of Summitview and 40th avenues”
CBS4 had a report on the protest in Denver Colorado, which included a counter protest for immigration reform.
From the video we count about 25 Tea baggers, be their usual loud and obnoxious selves. The number of counter protesters, one who was interviewed and gave a calm and reasoned answer as to why we need immigration reform is unknown.
The turnout in Durango, a city in southern Colorado, is unknown, yet.
San Diego tea baggers reporting in offering some beautiful photos of the USS Midway, where real patriots fought and died during WWII. From the looks of things, perhaps 100 people showed up, some with signs bashing our President held by a young lady too young to know what the hell she is talking about.
The Redding Record Searchlight (a cool name for a small paper) is reporting only about 50 people showed up, but making Willy proud of them by spouting the tired propaganda that Gheen espouses.
The protesters say the federal government has plans for an amnesty program that would provide citizenship, health care and other support to people who came into the country illegally, said 71-year-old Suann Prigmore of Redding, organizer of the two-hour protest and a member of the Bostonian Tea Party.
“It will ruin the integrity of this country if we let all these illegal aliens in,” Prigmore said
Not exactly what immigration reform would be about, but hey! At 71 years old, this darling lady probably has naughty nocturnal thoughts about “Dear William”.
The protesters drew honks of support, and some middle fingers, from passing motorists.
In a city of 3/4 of a million people, the turnout of 200 people to hear the hateful rhetoric of speakers such as Senator Russell Pearce and Chris Simcox, is negligible. This is the turnout that the Arizona Republic is reporting in a very well written non partisan article.
Two things stand out in this article. Two interviews with two of the protesters, both in their 50′s
53 year old retired massage therapist Brandy Baron
As she lent her support to an anti-illegal immigration tea party Saturday, Brandy Baron couldn’t help but think of her Hispanic grandparents.
The pair came from Mexico to the United States but only because they had work waiting for them, the Phoenix resident said. “They did it the right way.”
I have no doubts her grandparents came into this country “the right way”. At her age, her grandparents probably came into the country under the 1942 Bracero Agreement. Back then, and up until the early 60′s, Mexican citizens came and went, with a wave to the Customs officer if there was one. There were none of the ridiculous obstacles thrown at Mexican citizens in those days as there is today. This points to a need for common sense immigration reform. If you make the rules fair and doable, immigrants from Mexico will comply.
And the other point from Jacque Jacobsen, 56, who spouts nonsense more in keeping with ALIPAC’s propaganda.
“So many people are just bleeding the system,” said Jacobsen, who works 34 hours a week for a laser manufacturing company. The Phoenix resident has health care but is concerned too much pressure on the medical system could put that coverage in jeopardy.
When 15-year-old girls come from Mexico to give birth, it’s not fair, she said. “I don’t mind helping people out but they need to become legal, do what’s right.”
Bleeding the system? Is this a reference to the debunked statistics that hate groups like FAIR, NUMBERSUSA and CIS, use to bring people around to their way of thinking?
And the “15 year old girl” theory sounds like something deposed CNN xenophobe, Lou Dobbs would use to inflame the passions of his audience.
RALEIGH NORTH CAROLINA
I wonder if Willy is beating his head against the wall tonight at the apparent low turnout at his premier event in Raleigh, where he promised to make a “speech to the nation! Is this Willies speech with the two goons looking at everyone with suspicion? Did Willy hire these two guys for protection, or are they there to protect the public from Willy?
Looking at the photos, I would guesstimate probably 100 or less, although knowing Willy, he will inflate the numbers ten fold.
That’s alright though. Willies ego can’t be too bruised. He has been asked ( or he bullied his way into a spot) on Fox News in the morning at 08:45 EST.
And Willies supporters are already posting their adoring comments letting him know they will be watching their Willy in the morning with their willies in their hands.
To recap what we know so far.
7 Cities – 553 protesters (best estimate) Willy might get his 5000 numbers, but it is looking doubtful.
46 cities not reporting yet. He would need 100 in each venue.
Naw, it ain’t gonna happen
More to come as the reports come in.
