Laredo Police Spokesman Joe Baeza

Laredo Police spokesman Joe Baeza confirmed today the basis for the debunked Los Zetas story was a bogus 911 call that was investigated and found to be false by the Webb County Sheriffs Department. He provided no evidence or confirmation that the alleged "police blotter" screenshot is real

While Kimberly Dvorak and Dan “Digger” Amato, still stand by the ridiculous story that Los Zetas invaded Laredo area ranches holding their owners hostage, Laredo Police Department spokesman Joe Baeza told media and local reporters the basics of what occurred on July 24, in a rural area of Mines Road in Laredo Texas.

“It was just one of many unconfirmed rumors and threats that we get here on a daily basis,” said Baeza. “A rumor that spun out of control.”

Baeza said it began with a law enforcement bulletin dated July 24 that was leaked to a blogger.

“Those are the things that were being reported to us by another law enforcement agency,” said Baeza who confirmed that the reports turned out to be false. Baeza says the Webb County Sheriff’s Office did get a call from someone claiming the Zetas seized a ranch and were even holding hostages. The WCSO sent the information out to other area law enforcement agencies then went to the area to investigate. The Laredo Police Department also was advised of the tip and was on standby if needed.

Baeza says sheriff’s deputies talked to ranchers, neighbors, and property owners. “Basically nobody knew what they were talking about,” he said.

That should be the end of it. A bogus call. Some have said it was a dispute amongst neighbors, yet that area is mostly commercial and the rest undeveloped.

But for Dan “Digger” Amato, that isn’t good enough. His explanation? The only reason for the cover-up to continue is purely political in nature.

Come on up out of your mama’s basement for some fresh air Digger. You’re OD’ing on Red Bull son.

So actually, nothing happened. A bogus call to the Webb Country Sheriff’s office that was investigated and found to have no basis.

Not good enough for the likes of Dvorak and Amato though who can’t let an opportunity for Mexican bashing pass them by. They continue to insist Los Zetas invaded Laredo Texas.

It would seem to us that Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar should conduct an investigation of who within his department is leaking internal police data. That would be the place to start as it tied up for a brief time, law enforcement resources that could have been better utilized patrolling our county.

Knowing several reporters working for the Laredo Morning Times, it is also ludicrous to imagine anything of this scope being covered up or subject to a media blackout. Both conspiracy theories of nutjobs like Dvorak and Amato who automatically make those claims when their ridiculous fantasies and rants are not picked up by the mainstream media and reported as facts.

Another thing to keep in mind. Had this in fact occurred, why would the leak within the WCSO “leak” the information to a hack blogger 1500 miles from the scene of the crime and a pseudo journalist such as Dvorak who blogs for the internet fish wrap, Examiner.com? Why not “leak” it to one of their sources at LMT or the San Antonio Express News? Doesn’t make any sense does it? Unless, unless you’re one of the wingnuts yourself.

So, there was no invasion. Los Zetas were not involved and it is very questionable that what Dvorak purports to be a screenshot of the “police blotter” is real.

Los Zetas or any other of the cartels don’t need to “invade” property in South Texas or anywhere else and draw attention to their activities. They buy what they need. That’s often overlooked by these anti American Mexenophobes who spend their waking hours thinking up utterly ridiculous ideas to spring on unwitting white folks for fun and profit or simply to get their 15 minutes of fame.

And should something of this nature occur. The law enforcement community, State, Federal, County and Local is well trained and well equipped to counter such an incident and bring it to a swift conclusion.
