On Monday, Shawna Forde, 41, national director of Minutemen American Defense, a nativist group that rails against illegal immigrants, called police to report that a trio of intruders had just ambushed her in her kitchen. She allegedly was beaten, sexually assaulted and slashed on the back of her neck with a knife, she told officers.
This occurred while her husband was recovering in the hospital from gunshot wounds received on December 22, when someone burst into their home and began shooting. Of course, the suspect in that case looks hispanic.
Everett police acknowledge they aren’t quite sure what to make of the violent events recently reported at the home in the 2200 block of Rockefeller Avenue. The nativist hate groups seem to be pulling out all the stops as a new era in American history begins and this story stretches the realm of credibility.

Early Friday, a story was posted on her group’s Web site detailing what Forde said happened at her home. The posting is complete with photographs of Forde, displaying bruises and other injuries to her face, thighs and buttocks. These photos only bring more questions to mind.
The alleged knife wounds barely pierce the skin among other issues and the number “13″ on the floor has a “feminine” form to it, not like the tags left by gangbangers who tend to use goth characters. No wonder the police have unanswered questions.
Forde, a one-time candidate for Everett City Council, insists the violence is somehow linked to her activism, including investigations she says she’s been making into drug cartels and human trafficking rings.
“I am not dealing with people who make cookies,” she said Friday, adding that she wanted her story to be told. “These are dangerous people.”
Detectives are investigating what happened Monday, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. He confirmed police and paramedics were summoned to the Rockefeller home and a report was taken, but they refuse to confirm or deny Forde’s story, as is common when there is some doubt surrounding the circumstances.
Forde said she doesn’t expect to provide detectives with a formal statement until sometime next week. That will give her plenty of time polish her story.
The Everett Wa. Herald learned of the most-recent reported violence after Forde got home from the hospital on Tuesday. She called the newsroom, asking if there were plans for a story. Gotta be quick because January 20 is upon us.
In an interview and on her group’s Web site, Forde said she was knocked partially unconscious by a sudden blow, beaten with some sort of club, cut with a knife and sexually assaulted. Forde said the people who injured her filled her bathtub with water — she’s convinced because they planned to drown her. They also used a felt pen to scrawl the number 13 on her kitchen floor.
Yet on her own website, the administrator, who calls himself what else but a “Patriot”, spins a different yarn.
She is recovering slowly and in allot of pain. She remembers a young boy seemed like white male and another that spoke in Spanish she believes there to be 3 attackers at this time and in and out of consequence she recalls some Spanish being spoken. She has had some memory return but it is still blurry.
She said her freelance crime investigations could have brought trouble her way, and suggested the “13″ may be a reference to Hispanic street gangs, including the ultra violent Mara Salvatrucha.
Again, the administrator clarifies:
Shawna has been investigating drug cartel operations from Nogales to Sells she had broken in pretty deep as far as locations and the ins and out of operations; she was working on discovering the connections here in WA state along with humane trafficking of young girls.
Who else would she blame. Perhaps next time she’ll stay home making cookies where she belongs. If this is as here forum administrator claims and he is not just acting “self important” as many of these nativists try to act, then she is into something way over her pay grade.
But her strategy seems to be working. People in the Minutemen movement are concerned.
Jim Gilchrist, president of the California-based Minuteman Project, the original “Viagra Vigilantes”,called the newspaper Friday, seeking information. Forde’s organization is separate, Gilchrist said, but it is one his group refers volunteers to when they are interested in engaging in border observation operations.
Gilchrist is pretty much out to pasture since being ousted from the group he founded.
“We still have to wait to get some confirmation from the police department as to what is going on,” Gilchrist said. “We are kind of shocked. This has not happened before.”
Forde recently completed a three-month stint in Arizona, where she told Gilchrist she was monitoring illegal activity along with dozens of other meddlers, he said.
Gilchrist said Forde’s group, like the one he once oversaw, advocates for active law enforcement at the nation’s borders. He said members don’t attempt to apprehend or otherwise engage people who they suspect may be engaged in illegal conduct.
Volunteers have reported being shot at while on the borders, but nothing like Forde is reporting now, Gilchrist said. Those claims are suspect and have never been verified.
“If it was an act of MS-13, or an illegal alien or a drug cartel we are going to come out with a passion that the public has never seen before,” he said. “That is not a threat of violence,” but a promise of “dire consequences, politically and socially,” he said.
Not a threat of violence? The website of this MAD group (appropriate acronym) suggests differently.
Now maybe people will see that simply sitting on the border and pointing out the direction the invaders were going is not enough.

Forde in 2007 made an unsuccessful bid for Everett City Council, campaigning in part on a promise to make certain that police aren’t blocked from checking on the immigration status of suspects.
It has been proven in the last election (Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter come to mind) that when you focus on one issue your bound to go down in flames
She hosted Gilchrist at an anti-immigration rally in downtown Everett, an event that drew about 100 people and a handful of protesters.
The licensed cosmetologist and esthetician also drew attention during the campaign when she pleaded guilty to stealing chocolate milk from an Everett grocery store.
Forde at the time said the whole thing was a misunderstanding, but pleaded guilty to put the matter behind her.
So now we see that Shawna Forde is not only a meddler but a criminal also. A criminal with a record. What a hypocrite. Railing about the “criminals” crossing our borders when her crime is much more severe than theirs. Typical of the nativists.
In 2007 she spent large amounts of time in Arizona, focusing on her political activism. Her Web site makes it clear that she continues to spend time away from Everett. She and her husband, 51, moved into separate homes in July. In October, he filed for divorce, although they continue to share a home, she said.
Forde’s border activities have drawn attention from the Montgomery, Ala.-based Southern Poverty Law Center, which has tracked hate groups for decades. The organization profiled Forde in Spring 2008 as one of 20 people it characterized as exploiting any medium to deliver a “message of raging intolerance” on immigration issues.

Preppy, blonde and fashionably coiffed, Shawna Forde doesn’t look much like a grunge rock promoter or a border vigilante. Yet during the Seattle grunge scene’s early 1990s heyday, Forde promoted and toured with several post-punk bands. Today, she’s traded in her thrift-store flannel for a pantsuit, and her concert posters for Minuteman fliers pronouncing, “The Great Gringo awakens from siesta.”As head of Minutemen American Defense, or MAD, she straps on a yellow armband and carries a two-way radio to patrol the U.S.-Canadian border “against unlawful and unauthorized entry of all individuals, contraband, and foreign military.” Acting on what she claims are “insider personnel tips,” the group also has assigned members to patrol the Everett, Wash., main branch public library in search of suspicious-looking Middle Eastern men. Fortuitously, the library’s windows overlook the Port of Everett, which MAD deems a high-profile terrorism target.
In the summer of 2007, Forde shared the podium at the Everett Elks Lodge with Minuteman Project co-founder Jim Gilchrist. Around 100 people attended the Illegal Immigration Summit at which Forde described her nativist awakening. “I was in the mall one day and, hey– –– nobody’s speaking English. I realized we had a serious problem. I just got tired of pushing one for English. I decided to do something about it,” she said.
Forde’s belief that in two years undocumented immigrants will “outnumber real Americans” is mild compared to other statements on MAD’s website, such as a claim that Al Qaeda terrorists are recruiting U.S.-based members of the violent Latino street gang MS-13. A photo of the Ford Foundation’s New York building is captioned, “This is where La Raza gets money to help destroy the U.S.”
Forde has made two failed forays into local politics. In 2006, she started a MAD spin-off group to gather signatures in an unsuccessful bid for a ballot initiative that would cut off any state aid to undocumented immigrants. Then, in the fall of 2007, she ran for Everett City Council on an anti-immigration platform. She received nearly 5,900 votes but lost.
Her candidacy was tarnished by a well-publicized August 2007 shoplifting conviction for stealing $3.18 worth of chocolate milk from a grocery store. Forde claimed she walked into an adjacent Starbucks to meet a friend and simply forgot about paying. She nonetheless pleaded guilty, claiming she could not attend the trial while filming along the Mexican border. “The only reason I settled is because I’m shooting a documentary for my country,” Forde told reporters. “I don’t care [about the charges]. I am way too busy nationally to worry about this.”
