DSC_6927.jpgHere are some interesting facts about Pima County and Arizona’s Death Row, which is potentially Minuteman child killer Shawna Fordes future home.

  • There are 119 people on death row and two of them are women.
  • As you might expect, Pima County has the second highest number of inmates on death row. Maricopa County has 66 on death row, Pima County 25 and Mohave County 8.
  • Arizona’s last execution was in May 2007. The defendant’s name was Robert Comer.
  • Since 1937, the average length of stay on death row is 12 years.
  • Pima County is seeking the death penalty for at least twelve other people aside from Christopher Payne at the moment. They are: Ruben Archunde, Nick Delich, Marco Chavez, Marco Glaser, Armando Estrada, Rosendo Valenzuela and Apollo Ortega, Shawna Forde, Albert Gaxiola and Jason Eugene “Gunny” Bush.

The other two, Scott Nordstrom and Robert Moody, were already sentenced to death once, but their sentences were overturned when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that juries, not judges, should decide the sentence in capital cases.

  • There are 13 black people on Arizona’s death row, 82 whites, 17 Mexican Americans, 5 Native Americans and two “other.”
