Mexico gets to have a say in one of the lawsuits challenging Arizona’s immigration enforcement law. A US District Court Judge Susan Bolton on Thursday granted Mexico’s request to be allowed to file a legal brief supporting the challenges to Arizona’s draconian and controversial SB-1070. What this means is the Court will consider the amicus curiae brief Mexico submitted previously. Attorneys for the Republic of Mexico says they want to defend the rights of it’s citizens, both legal and undocumented, and that the law would lead to racial profiling and hinder trade and tourism. Apparently, J.T. Ready’s little soiree in the desert was a success, in his mind at least, and in ours, since he was unsuccessful in killing any Mexicans as seemed to be his intent. He was hampered though by the media entourage that accompanied him as his small group attacked and secured an abandoned building within sight of Interstate 8, hardly the securing of the border he had in mind. In another blow to incarcerated Minuteman child killer Shawna Forde, the ACLU has rejected her recent complaint making various and sundry allegations against Sheriff Clarence Dupnik and the Pima County jail corrections staff. Forde had claimed she was a victim of “Massive Civil Rights Violations”as well as accusing Sheriff Dupnik of practicing White Racial Profiling (WRP) in the Pima County Jail, and to being in violation of the Civil Rights Act, Titles III and VI, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as violating all her Constitutional rights. TPM reports that the man who owns a bounty hunting firm tracking Minuteman founder Chris Simcox is himself a former Minuteman, one who has personal beef with Simcox. Fugitive Recovery Services, is owned by former border vigilante Stacey O’Connell who was booted from the group after fighting with Simcox. O’Connell was once the director of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps’ Arizona chapter. He left in 2007 after accusing the Minutemen of misusing and hiding finances, and he has called for a criminal investigation O’Connell said Simcox’s ex-wife hired him. Not if you saw a recent story by a Phoenix television station that examined hundreds of e-mails exchanged between supporters of the legislation and its sponsor, state Sen. Russell Pearce. Here is how one constituent described the bill’s purpose: “I think it is about time we take our state and country back from the Mexicans.” Many others offered similar comments. The truth can be ugly.
