Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Rejects Gov. Brewer’s Challenge, Upholds Injunction of SB 1070

FROM F I R M Today the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals refused to lift an injunction on the most controversial aspects of SB 1070, including the provision that required police to verify the immigration status of anyone they suspected of being undocumented. TPM reports: The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday struck down Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s appeal of a preliminary injunction against the state’s controversial immigration law, upholding the decision by a District Court judge to block key parts of the law until the Justice Department’s lawsuit against it is decided. [BREAKING NEWS] Judge denies Gov. Jan Brewer's motions in SB1070 case - Plaintiffs have standing

PHOENIX – Federal Judge Susan Bolton has denied motions by Governor Jan Brewer and Sheriff Joe Arpaio to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Senate Bill 1070. Bolton found that the plaintiffs, Friendly House and the American Civil Liberties Union, had standing to bring the lawsuit and that the moment was “ripe” to do so because of concerns surrounding unreasonable search and seizure and the “equal protection clause” which forbids unequal treatment for different classes of people or racial discrimination. Seven lawsuits have been filed in federal court against SB 1070. Two have been dismissed, and two have yet to be argued in front of Bolton.

"God" files "amicus curiae" brief in support of SB-1070

The battle against Arizona’s draconian SB-1070 anti Hispanic law is lost. Move over Jan Brewer, JT Ready, Russell Pearce, Joe Arpaio and the rest of you loony toons, God has spoken and he is on your side. The newest “amicus curiae” brief in support of SB-1070 was filed yesterday by none other than God himself. That’s right. And this is how she repays her adopted countries generosity. She’s pissed at the undocumented immigrants apparently because she wasn’t able MORE

DOJ lawsuit filed against Arizona & SB-1070 sets the stage for milestone ruling

As expected, The US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit yesterday against Arizona’s darconian SB-1070, weeks before the law is scheduled to go into effect. SB 1070 “is pre-empted by federal law and therefore violates the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution,” legal papers filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix contend. The lawsuit says the legislation conflicts with the federal government’s need to balance the competing interests of enforcing federal immigration law with the country’s diplomatic relations with other nations, including Mexico.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer - "Illegal immigration is like ‘terrorist attacks"

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, getting it from all sides for her signing of SB-1070, Arizona’s racial profiling law, continues pandering to the extremists in her state and around the nation, this time, pulling out the “terror card”. In a little-noticed Fox News interview Friday, Arizona’s Republican governor, Jan Brewer, described the challenge of illegal immigration in her state as a veritable terrorist bonanza. Fox News host Megyn Kelly asked Brewer, “Do you think that these folks who are all noticeably outside of your state, are the ones that I just ticked off, including the President, have an appreciation, governor, for what Arizona has been going through with respect to illegal immigration?” “Obviously not,” Brewer replied. “You know Arizona has been MORE
