Utah Compact: Principles to Guide Immigration Discussion

An historic signing on immigration reform took place Thursday in the Utah State Capitol courtyard. Representatives from corporations and businesses, state and city governments, community organizations and faiths stepped forward to lend support to what’s titled “The Utah Compact.” They’ve been working for several months to draft a statement to influence the tone of the discussion on the immigration issue. This is further proof emerging to the the fact that more Americans support a rational discussion on the issue of immigration reform than those who advocate a draconian agenda of family separation and wholesale deportations. Navarrette - Keep ugliness out of immigration debate

San Diego, California (CNN) — ‘Tis the season of peace on Earth and good will toward men. Yet you wouldn’t know it from the screed from the conservative radio talk show host who recently charged into the immigration debate with gums flapping. He called for a crackdown on illegal immigration but also a wholesale tightening of immigration policy so we admit fewer legal immigrants as well. The radio talker was half-right. Americans must get serious about stopping illegal immigration, mostly by doing something we never seem to do with much enthusiasm: punish employers.
