I don’t believe in coincidences. The murder of Cochise County Rancher Robert Krentz, last month ignited a firestorm of protest and revived the unconstitutional bill known as SB-1070, from the doldrums of the Senate into a misguided law Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law. Everyone immediately jumped to the conclusion, without any evidence of support, that an “illegal” did it. What was the evidence? Footsteps leading towards Mexico. We found out later that Krentz was killed by a 9mm handgun. Illegal immigrants DO NOT carry weapons, especially one as expensive as a 9mm.
Singing Forces Arpaio Out of ASU Forum
Cross posted from Change.org BY PRERNA LAL Protesters at Arizona State University courageously interrupted a first amendment forum where the infamous Sheriff Joe Arpaio was interviewed in a ‘Meet the Press’ style. With protesters singing a must-read ‘Immigration Rhapsody,’ the Sheriff ended up playing dodgeball and walking out of a scrutinizing session. You can watch the whole video here. The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism is unhappy. So are the students who attended the conference. Maybe the behavior of the protesters is misplaced but it is nothing compared to the behavior of attention-holic Sheriff Arpaio who has no problem forcing women to give birth while shackled, parading immigrants in pink underwear and conducting racial profiling while ignoring real law enforcement priorities. After all, the singing started MORE
An “undocumented blogger” sent us this alleged phone conversation between Sheriff Arpaio, Lou Dobbs and ALIPAC’s William Gheen: Joe: Whats up fellow KKKer’s? Willy: Hi guys (in a simpering voice) Arpaio: Who’s that dippy hippy? Lou: He’s a nobody but has his uses, but I’m concerned Joe. Joe: Whatever for? Willy: Me Too Me Too damned Mexicans Lou: Shut up Willy! Joe, My ratings are dropping. Not as bad as yours over you coming out on every National TV program announcing you racially profile (thank God I had the sense to keep you off my show that week) and now with the FBI criminal investigation videos going viral. Its this fucking BastaDobbs movement and these f*%king Latino’s fact checking my MORE
Phoenix CBS 5 News has busted the malfeasance of Sheriff Joe Arpaio wide open in this video which aired last night. In it, a pattern emerges of how Arpaio has used his powers, and his deputies to intimidate, harass and open criminal investigations into his critics. From the Board of Supervisors, presiding Judges, reporters and activists,. If they disagreed with Arpaio, bad things happened. Arapio refused to comment on camera. How odd! Thanks to La Frontera Times for breaking this story
By Stephen Lemons in Feathered Bastard Is Sheriff Joe “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” or “America’s Biggest Wimp”? That’s what I can’t help wondering as I read this latest press release from his PR staff. It lamely attempts to link the folks who protest Joe almost daily outside downtown Phoenix’s Wells Fargo Building — where Arpaio keeps two floors of ultra-expensive executive offices — to Lou Dobbs’ recent report that a gun was fired outside his house three weeks ago. “The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office security detail is re-examining the level and methods of security it provides to Sheriff Joe Arpaio,” reads the statement, “in light of news coming out of New York City today that CNN TV host Lou Dobbs may have been MORE
The 2009 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Local Reporting has been awarded to Ryan Gabrielson and Paul Giblin of the East Valley Tribune, Mesa, Ariz., for their adroit use of limited resources to reveal, in print and online, how a popular sheriff’s focus on immigration enforcement endangered investigation of violent crime and other aspects of public safety. The series, titled, REASONABLE DOUBT can be seen and read here Congratulation to Ryan and Paul, and all of those who have worked to expose the wrongdoings of Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Special thanks to the Damn Mexican’s for the heads up!
Joe Arpaio and the Wrong Paths to Immigration Reform
All last week the people of Phoenix witnessed public outbursts by their sheriff, Joe Arpaio, as he railed against the Department of Homeland Security for supposedly trying to limit his ability to enforce federal immigration laws. He vowed to keep scouring Maricopa County for people whose clothing, accents and behavior betrayed them as likely illegal immigrants. He said he had already nabbed more than 32,000 people that way, and announced his next immigrant sweep for Oct. 16. The spectacle raises two critical questions that the Obama administration is in danger of getting wrong.
The controversial agreement that authorized Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s deputies to act as federal immigration agents on the streets appears to have ended, Arpaio said late Friday afternoon. The sheriff said he signed a new agreement Friday that will allow deputies and detention officers to continue screening every inmate booked into Maricopa County jails to determine their immigration status. But he said federal authorities had not offered an agreement to extend Arpaio’s street-level immigration enforcement. “This just includes the jail, and deep down, I feel that I ought to take it and rip it all up,” Arpaio said. “On the other hand, I feel it’s very critical to have the jail.” Federal officials on Friday refused to comment on the agreement.
Justice Department investigators have met with religious and community leaders to hear testimonies on the anti-immigrant practices of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Complaints of racial profiling in traffic stops, and physical and verbal abuse in the jails have mounted against deputies of the controversial sheriff Joe Arpaio for the last couple of years. But tensions have escalated since Sheriff Arpaio signed an agreement with the federal government in 2007 to enforce immigration laws. The controversial 287(g) program has been used to train 160 deputies in Maricopa County who conduct immigration sweeps in Latino neighborhoods and markets. Authority under 287(g) must now be renewed and Arpaio has until Oct. 15 to sign up for another term.
Hate groups host Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Houston
Joe Arpaio, America’s #1 violator of civil rights made a trip to Houston this past weekend to push his 2008 toilet companion, Joe’s Law. 250 persons shelled out $30 a pop to hear Joe rattle on about how great he and his book are. Joe also had copies of Joe’s Law for sale, and was autographing them. His visit was sponsored by the organizations Texans for Immigration Reform and U.S. Border Watch, both of which have been tagged as “nativist extremist” groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center. What’s in the book? Prose worthy of being used to wipe your ass after a long night of pickled eggs and cheap beer. Self promoting fantasies like the one wherein he claims credit for busting the MORE
