Twelve suspected members of the Zetas drug gang and a member of Mexico’s Navy were killed in a shootout on an island in a lake that straddles the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said Monday. The Mexican Navy said the shootout occurred Sunday on Falcon Lake, located between Texas and the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, after troops patrolling the area spotted a camping area on an island. The suspected drug traffickers used the island for storing marijuana to be transported by boat to the United States, the Navy said in a statement. Reports coming from the National Defense Secretariat that military units on routine patrol in the abandoned town of Cd. Mier came under attack by armed gunman believed to belong to Los Zetas. 4 soldiers were killed and 8 sicarios lost their lives in the confrontation. There were unconfirmed rumors that some military members were kidnapped by Los Zetas. The army recovered 7 AK-47′s, several pistols, 39 magazines and 650 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.

Those are Tiffany Hartley’s words as she begins a new round of media appearances after of a weekend of contradictions where it was reported that Mexican authorities had two suspects on their radar and then adamantly denied having ever made such a claim.
