Laredo Police Spokesman Joe Baeza

Laredo Police spokesman Joe Baeza confirmed today the basis for the debunked Los Zetas story was a bogus 911 call that was investigated and found to be false by the Webb County Sheriffs Department. He provided no evidence or confirmation that the alleged "police blotter" screenshot is real

While Kimberly Dvorak and Dan “Digger” Amato, still stand by the ridiculous story that Los Zetas invaded Laredo area ranches holding their owners hostage, Laredo Police Department spokesman Joe Baeza told media and local reporters the basics of what occurred on July 24, in a rural area of Mines Road in Laredo Texas.

“It was just one of many unconfirmed rumors and threats that we get here on a daily basis,” said Baeza. “A rumor that spun out of control.”

Baeza said it began with a law enforcement bulletin dated July 24 that was leaked to a blogger.

“Those are the things that were being reported to us by another law enforcement agency,” said Baeza who confirmed that the reports turned out to be false. Baeza says the Webb County Sheriff’s Office did get a call from someone claiming the Zetas seized a ranch and were even holding hostages. The WCSO sent the information out to other area law enforcement agencies then went to the area to investigate. The Laredo Police Department also was advised of the tip and was on standby if needed.

Baeza says sheriff’s deputies talked to ranchers, neighbors, and property owners. “Basically nobody knew what they were talking about,” he said.
