Arizona Numbnuts

Arizona and their sandbilly wannabe kluckers are always good for a laugh, and Stephen Lemmons of Phoenix New Times is always there to point it out for us. Russell Pearce, Bigot, Claims President Will Need “Papers” to Visit Arizona In D.C. to attend the oral arguments on Arizona’s employer sanctions law before the U.S. Supreme Court, he stopped by to visit his far-right wingnut pals at Judicial Watch, the think tank that regularly sues folks who just happen to oppose Judicial Watch’s nativist agenda.

DOJ Lawsuit against Joe Arpaio "imminent"?

The Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, is apparently fed up with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio refusal to cooperate with their investigation into allegations of discrimination and unconstitutional searches and seizures. In a letter sent to Arpaio today, Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez gave the Sheriff’s Office until Aug. 17 to cooperate with the investigation, and to turn over documents requested last year for an inquiry into claims of discrimination based on national origin. Arpaio, with his typical arrogance, claims the investigation is politically motivated. “MCSO’s refusal to cooperate fully with the Division’s investigation makes it an extreme outlier when compared with other recipients of federal financial assistance, which have uniformly recognized their obligation to cooperate with the Division’s MORE

DOJ lawsuit filed against Arizona & SB-1070 sets the stage for milestone ruling

As expected, The US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit yesterday against Arizona’s darconian SB-1070, weeks before the law is scheduled to go into effect. SB 1070 “is pre-empted by federal law and therefore violates the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution,” legal papers filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix contend. The lawsuit says the legislation conflicts with the federal government’s need to balance the competing interests of enforcing federal immigration law with the country’s diplomatic relations with other nations, including Mexico.

Mexico's "Amicus Curiae" brief accepted by Judge Susan Bolton

Mexico gets to have a say in one of the lawsuits challenging Arizona’s immigration enforcement law. A US District Court Judge Susan Bolton on Thursday granted Mexico’s request to be allowed to file a legal brief supporting the challenges to Arizona’s draconian and controversial SB-1070. What this means is the Court will consider the amicus curiae brief Mexico submitted previously. Attorneys for the Republic of Mexico says they want to defend the rights of it’s citizens, both legal and undocumented, and that the law would lead to racial profiling and hinder trade and tourism. It also says the law would hinder work against drug trafficking and related violence. The law’s provisions include a requirement that police enforcing another law ask MORE

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer - "Illegal immigration is like ‘terrorist attacks"

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, getting it from all sides for her signing of SB-1070, Arizona’s racial profiling law, continues pandering to the extremists in her state and around the nation, this time, pulling out the “terror card”. In a little-noticed Fox News interview Friday, Arizona’s Republican governor, Jan Brewer, described the challenge of illegal immigration in her state as a veritable terrorist bonanza. Fox News host Megyn Kelly asked Brewer, “Do you think that these folks who are all noticeably outside of your state, are the ones that I just ticked off, including the President, have an appreciation, governor, for what Arizona has been going through with respect to illegal immigration?” “Obviously not,” Brewer replied. “You know Arizona has been MORE

Immigration Clearinghouse endorses Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for Governor of Arizona

Sources are suggesting that Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio will be making an announcement next week, possibly on Tuesday of his plans to run for Governor of Arizona. IMMIGRATION CLEARINGHOUSE supports and endorses Sheriff Arpaio in his quest to unseat Governor Jan Brewer. Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen said he has spoken with the Sheriff on several occasions about running for governor.

Arizona Sheriff has the balls to say no to SB-1070 enforcement

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said today that he has “no intention of complying” with the state’s controversial new immigration law, SB-1070, calling it “abominable” and a “national embarrassment.” Dupnik said that he’d like Gov. Jan Brewer to know that “what she and the legislature has accomplished is morally wrong and a national embarrassment.” “We’re damned if we do, and damned if we don’t,” said Dupnik. “If we go out and look for illegal immigrants, they accuse us of racial profiling and we can get sued. And if some citizen doesn’t think we’re enforcing the state law, they can sue us too.” “If the chief of police or sheriff takes a squad out and says to them that their only MORE

Media whore Arpaio Cries Wolf, Links Self to Lou Dobbs Threat, Slanders Activists
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qjbgk1TKLWY”>related

By Stephen Lemons in Feathered Bastard Is Sheriff Joe “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” or “America’s Biggest Wimp”? That’s what I can’t help wondering as I read this latest press release from his PR staff. It lamely attempts to link the folks who protest Joe almost daily outside downtown Phoenix’s Wells Fargo Building — where Arpaio keeps two floors of ultra-expensive executive offices — to Lou Dobbs’ recent report that a gun was fired outside his house three weeks ago. “The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office security detail is re-examining the level and methods of security it provides to Sheriff Joe Arpaio,” reads the statement, “in light of news coming out of New York City today that CNN TV host Lou Dobbs may have been MORE

Navarrette - Sheriff Joe runs off the rails

Joe Arpaio, who calls himself “America’s toughest sheriff,” has gone rogue. Consumed by ego, accused of racial profiling, and running roughshod over the federal government, this incurable media hound is flirting with another title: “outlaw.” The Obama administration recently reined in Arpaio over his alleged abuse of a controversial program that allows more local law enforcement agencies to be trained to enforce immigration law as long as they stay within certain boundaries. That’s not Arpaio’s strong suit. This authority figure has trouble with authority. Consider all the corners that the Maricopa County, Ariz., sheriff is alleged to have cut in trying to round up illegal immigrants, such as swarming through Hispanic neighborhoods in Phoenix. Or consider that Arpaio shoots off MORE
