A reader demands that the media stop pussyfooting around and call the new Arizona immigration law what it is: “The Mexican Removal Act.” Too harsh? Not if you saw a recent story by a Phoenix television station that examined hundreds of e-mails exchanged between supporters of the legislation and its sponsor, state Sen. Russell Pearce. Here is how one constituent described the bill’s purpose: “I think it is about time we take our state and country back from the Mexicans.” Many others offered similar comments. The truth can be ugly. EL PASO — The world knew José Cisneros as a great painter. He was much more than that in El Paso, where his work turned heads and tore down barriers. Cisneros, who died Saturday at age 99, was a gentle man and a devout Catholic who used his talent to battle racism, said Monsignor Arturo Bañuelas, pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Community. On April 30, 2009, the Senate received, from the House of Representatives, H.R. 1913 Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 which passed the House on a vote of 249-175 . It was referred to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. This bill had 120 co-sponsors in the House. The people who have been following the antics of Shawna Forde in the Everett Wa. Herald will recognize well the name CHUCK STONEX of Alamagordo NM, a rabid defender of Shawna Forde, self styled National Director of the 14 member Minutemen American Defense. God help anyone who disagrees with Chucky as one young lady discovered. Patriotism used to be something that most Americans didn’t wear on their sleeves, not even military personnel. It was just a silent pride understood that everyone who lived in this country was patriotic by virtue of them either choosing to live here or having been born here.
