Lou Dobbs, controversial anchor of CNN’s Lou Dobbs tonight, who hitched his star to the rising tide of anti-immigrant hysteria, announced his immediate departure from the network last night. In the world of business, being let out of a contract two years early amounts to being fired. Call it what you will, the man who gave a patina of legitimacy to hate groups like FAIR, NUMBERSUSA; who gave a platform for border vigilante groups and their leaders like Jim Gilchrist’s Minuteman Project, is off the air, for now.
