Tea Baggers show true colors in Nashville

Dale Robertson of Houston based Teaparty.org seems to be in need of the Jim Crow era literacy test that Tancredo promoted in his opening speech to the Tea Baggers in Nashville
Tancredo opens Tea Party Convention in style
The tea baggers kicked it off in style with the anti-immigrant, anti hispanic rants of former Representative Tom Tancredo, who apparently pines for the days of the Jim Crow Laws
Tancredo — best known for his vehement opposition to illegal immigration, if not immigration an immigrants generally — stuck to the subject he really knows. Or at least thinks he knows.
The former congressman complained that “people who could not even spell the word ‘vote’, or say it in English, put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House. His name is Barack Hussein Obama.” And he said the reason for this was that “we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country.” (There’s a reason for that, by the way.)
Tea Party Leader a nut job in his own right
Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips, a n’er do well lawyer from Tennessee, has a checkered professional record and has made some outrageous attacks on immigrants.
Our friend Patrick Young at Long Island Wins puts it this way:
Here is what he says should be done about undocumented immigrants: “I know the solution. Take a plane load of them and dump them in Somalia. Make no secret of it and tell the illegals, everytime we catch them, that is where they are going. 99% of them will head back to the border on their own.”
And he is not at all sympathetic to their children either: “The Tennessean [newspaper] is whining about the children of illegals not being allowed to get Christmas toys from the Salvation Army because they require an SSN. Boo hoo. How about the kids of American citizens who aren’t getting much of a Christmas this year because the illegals have put their parents out of work?”
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a leading anti-immigrant which claims to not be extremist, was a sponsor of the tea party event until about a week ago.
Meanwhile, Phillips has apparently been personally profitting from his rousing of the tea baggers. Although his group has gotten help from many volunteers, he recently incorporated it as a for-profit corporation and, in the past had linked its contributions to his wife’s paypal account.
And as for who the real “illegal” is, Phillips owes five figures for failing to pay back taxes to the IRS.
Phillips told reporters Friday that “Tom Tancredo gave a fantastic speech last night. I think he is an amazing politician.”
Asked if he agrees with Tancredo’s description of Obama, Phillips said, “The word ’socialist’ is a word you don’t want to be labeled with in the American political system. It’s got a lot of negative connotations, but it also has a very specific political meaning. It refers to a specific political ideology. I think it is very clear that that is the political ideology of Barack Obama.”
Phillips added that he thinks “Tancredo doesn’t feel like a lot of people who supported Barack Obama understand the basics of this country.”
A spokesman for the Tea Party Nation, the group that organized the convention, said Tancredo’s speech may have provided some red meat but termed it problematic.
It has to be pretty radical when a known hate group such as FAIR pulls away from the group.
Deporting Mexicans to Somali? That sounds like something Jeff Schwilk and his buddy William Gheen of ALIPAC would get excited about. Perhaps that is why Gheen is trying to tie his wagon to the tea party movement, or wait a minute! Could it be the money to be made spreading the hysteria? That’s probably the reason.
And the central theme of the convention seems to be these Clowns, Dunderheads and Neanderthals Making Ludicrous/Racist Statements Including: “I Want My Country Back…From our Black President!”
And of course, last month, we reported on how the Tea Baggers showed their true core racist beliefs in a fundraising email sent to members, portraying President Obama as a stereotypical pimp.
The Keynote speaker to be Sarah Palin
That’s right folks, the tea baggers are all excited that the keynote speaker will be none other than that “Babblin Bimbo” Sarah Palin, former vice presidential candidate and.. and???? Reportedly, she is being paid an honorarium of $100,000.00 but since word of that surfaced, she is going to give it back to the “cause”, maybe? well, only if she is forced to do so. Tickets to hear Palin speak will cost the estimated 600 attendees and additional $349.00.
Mmmm. $1000 for a weekend of hate and bullshit? The economy must not be as bad as some would have you believe.
Last week two major speakers scheduled for the convention dropped out of the lineup. Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota announced that they would not attend the convention.
Blackburn was scheduled to serve as a featured speaker and introduce Palin. Bachman was scheduled to serve as one of the convention’s kickoff speakers. Both are strong supporters of the Tea Baggers movement.
Both said the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct advised them not to participate because of the convention’s for-profit status.
Meanwhile……
In a “Quick Vote” opinion poll on CNN asking; “Do you agree with the Tea Party movement’s agenda?” , out of more than 150,000 responses, 51% stated NO, 36% YES and 13% didn’t have a clue.
