Body of shooter in killing of West Memphis Police officers
West Memphis Police Inspector Bert Shelton said officers were “running drug interdiction” on Interstate 40 in east Arkansas when they pulled over a white van with Ohio license plates. The two
men got out of the van and opened fire on the officers with AK-47s, he said.
Brandon Paudert, the son of West Memphis’ police chief, died at the scene and Bill Evans died at a hospital. Traffic stopped as authorities searched vehicles on Interstate 40 looking for the suspects, who were later spotted in the parking lot of a nearby Walmart.
Crittenden County Sheriff Dick Busby who responded, was shot in the arm, and Chief Deputy W.A. Wren, who was shot in the abdomen, were taken to a local hospital, said Larry Godwin, the safety director in Memphis, Tenn. Busby’s condition was not immediately known while Wren was in critical condition, a spokesman at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis said.
There is not much information being released about the identities of the shooters and some information is speculative, such as the types of weapons used. AP is reporting AK-47′s while local news report the shooters were armed with a handgun and a “long rifle”.
However, the usual suspects are claiming these were members of a Mexican drug cartel and the shooters were Mexican.
That much we know is not true. The van involved in today’s shooting was registered to the House of God’s Prayer of 143 West Main Street in New Vienna. Clinton County, Ohio records show the New Vienna property is owned by something called the Universal Life of the Good Shepherd Church. It has an address 50 miles away in Middletown, Ohio.
Butler County records show the Middletown property owned by Hoge and Mary Tabor. A man named Hoge Tabor from Ohio is mentioned in a book about the Aryan Nation.
Aryan Nation? White Supremacists? Auto weapons? Perhaps it is time to reinstate the assault weapons ban before more folks are killed in this manner.
It is also interesting, as my brother pointed out last night, that this is not being reported nationally as it should be. And groups such as ALIPAC are keeping their distance, especially in light of the revelations of ALIPAC President William Gheens connection to white supremacists and neo nazis.
Our thoughts and prayers with the families of these officers.
